Sunshine Sprint 5K

Event

The 2026 Sunshine Sprint is a 5k road/trail event on May 17, 2026 at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, VA. Points from the event count toward the Year-Long 5k & Back of the Pack Series and the Spring Series. The event benefits the Center for Health and Human Rights. A virtual run option is available. Walkers and strollers are welcome. Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical (DriFit) event shirt, and chip timing.

Course and logistics

The race starts and finishes at Shelter C in Burke Lake Park. The route is mostly paved with a short gravel section and has limited elevation gains. Parking is at Shelter C; the organizer provides a latitude/longitude pin for the meeting location (38.757432, -77.300404). Two water stations are on course at about mile 0.7 and mile 2.4, with Gatorade available at some stations. Restrooms are located by the parking lot at Shelter A.

Packet pickup is available at the event; participants are advised to arrive about one hour before the event to check in. Race day registration is offered, but t-shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed for race-day registrants; t-shirts are guaranteed for those registered before May 6. The 5k registration fee is $30 through April 30 and $35 thereafter; the price increases by $5 on race morning. Live results are posted on Athlinks and final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race. Awards include top 3 men and women overall and 1st and 2nd in listed age groups.
