Event overview
The Sunshine Festival July 4th 5k & 1 mile takes place on July 4, 2026 in Saint Simons Island, GA (601 Mallery Street). The event program includes the following distances:

- Adaptive Athlete - 5k
Registration prices listed are $35 for the 5k, $25 for the 1 mile, and $45 for the Adaptive Athlete 5k. The price increases after March 31, 2026. Walk-up registration is available on July 3; there is no race-day registration on July 4.
Course, timing and race rules
The 5k route is USTAF certified. The 1-mile course starts and finishes at the same location as the 5k and follows Park Avenue with a turnaround near Magnolia Avenue. Chip timing is used and is provided by Second Wind Timing. Only the overall fastest male and female are scored by gun time; other results are scored by chip time.
The starting line is self-seeded into 10 pace sections. A Push Rim division for Adaptive athletes will start ahead of the main field. Strollers are allowed; dogs are not allowed. Packet pickup is available before race day and on race day at the Kings Park / St Simons Park area. Unclaimed packets and shirts are forfeited if not picked up by the event deadline.
Awards and services
All finishers in the 5k and 1-mile receive a finisher medal. 5k awards include overall, Masters, Grand Masters, Senior Masters, and age-group prizes with standard age-group divisions. The 1-mile has separate youth and adult awards. Event photography will be provided and digital images are offered free. On-site food and water vendors will distribute bagels, fruit, frozen yogurt and bottled water. Parking is limited; alternatives listed include Mallery Street, the ballpark, village areas, the library and the lighthouse. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
