Sunset Run for the Park 5K Run/Walk
The Sunset Run for the Park takes place at Nissequogue River State Park in Kings Park, New York. This evening event features a scenic course through the park grounds and is held rain or shine. Participants can choose between two distances:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1K Fun Run
The 1K Fun Run is an untimed event specifically designed for children. For the 5K event, participants who register at least three weeks in advance receive a personalized bib with their name printed on it. All participants must know their bib number for pickup, which can be found via a self-lookup system at the venue.
Amenities provided at the race include food, beverages, and a DJ providing entertainment for attendees. Registered participants receive a t-shirt and a gift, though supplies are limited for those who register on the day of the race. For participants aged 21 and over, complimentary beer is available.
The event includes a competitive element with monetary awards for the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top male and female masters. Age group awards are recognized in five-year increments starting from 14 and under up to 80 and over. Proceeds from the event support the Nissequogue River State Park Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on the preservation and beautification of the park's historical and environmental assets.
