Sundowner Triathlon
The Sundowner Triathlon is a multi-distance triathlon event held at Allerthorpe Lakeland Park, Pocklington, York YO42 4RL. The event listing notes it is sold out with a waiting list of over 250 people.
The venue uses a shallow man-made lake for the swim with water depths around 5 ft to 7 ft. The lake is sheltered from wind and typically presents flat water. The bike leg follows quiet country lanes on a flat, open road course that remains open to traffic, is well signed and is a non-draft legal section. The run is a flat trail route around the lake designed to be spectator friendly; the route avoids the canal tow path for this edition.
Multiple race formats are offered, including:
- Sprint Triathlon: 750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run
- Olympic Triathlon: 1500m swim, 45km cycle, 10km run
- 70.3 Triathlon: 1900m swim, 90km cycle, 21km run
- Relay, Aquabike and Aquathlon variations at equivalent distances
Participants must hold British Triathlon membership or purchase a single-use race pass for £8.00 to meet event insurance and licensing requirements. Race services include chip timing, finishers medal and t-shirt, marshalled and way-marked routes, aid stations, on-site medical and mechanic support, parking, toilets and event photography.
