About the race
The Steppingley Step is a countryside walking event based at Barton-le-Clay Village Hall, MK45 4JY. Routes run through undulating farmland and woods, using field paths, tracks and some roads, with views from the hills on the course.

- 12 miles (walkers only)
- 18 miles
- 26 miles
The event uses route descriptions and checkpoints: the 12 mile route has one checkpoint, the 18 mile route has two, and the 26 mile route has three. Participants must download and print their own route description ahead of the event; route descriptions and GPX files will be published on the organiser's website by 5th November 2026. Marked maps will be displayed at the start.
Entries are online only. Priority entry is open to LDWA members until the end of Sunday 18th October, with full entry opening to all on 19th October; entries open on 1st September and close on 13th November 2026. Entry fees are listed as LDWA member £10, non LDWA £15, under 18s free. There are no entries on the day, entries are not transferable, and no substitutions are allowed. A £2 admin fee applies to refunds advised before 1st November 2026; later refunds are not given except in specific circumstances.
Refreshments provided include drinks throughout, start biscuits, checkpoint snacks and a light meal at the finish. Dogs are allowed on leads and assistance dogs are permitted in halls. Participants must follow the Countryside Code and carry essential equipment such as the route description, compass, mug, waterproofs and a small first aid kit. Return transport on retirement is available only from checkpoints. Certificates and badges are awarded to finishers, with additional recognition for completing the local triple challenge.
