Chiltern Ridge Winter 50K
The Chiltern Ridge Winter 50K is a single-loop trail race held on 31 October 2026 that starts and finishes at Berkhamsted Cricket Club. The route runs through Berkhamsted Common, National Trust Ashridge Estate and along The Ridgeway National Trail, passing through Aldbury and Wendover before following the Chiltern Way back into Ashridge and downhill to Berkhamsted. The course covers 50K with approximately 800 m of elevation gain and varied trail terrain.
The race is fully marked with orange arrow markers and ribbons, and marshals assist at road crossings and busier sections. All runners must carry a digital GPX of the route on a watch or phone as a backup; printed maps are provided at registration. Navigation is supported by course checkers during the event.
Aid provision includes a water-only point at 11.9 km and three full checkpoints stocked with water, Coke, pre-mixed electrolyte drink, gels, chews, crisps, sweets, mini flapjacks and fresh fruit. There is on-course medical support and chip timing with live results. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and held under UKA rules; it is listed on the UTMB World Series index.
Entries are open to runners aged 20 or older, with a maximum field of 350 and a 9 hour overall time limit. Required kit includes a mobile phone, GPX route plus paper map, waterproof jacket, warm hat and gloves, extra long sleeve layer, head torch, reusable cup, refillable hydration (0.5 L min, 1 L recommended) and payment method.
