Chiltern Ridge Winter 50K

The Chiltern Ridge Winter 50K is a single-loop trail ultra of 50K with approximately 800m+ elevation. The next edition is on Saturday 1st November 2025 and the event base is Berkhamsted Cricket Club. The race is limited to 325 runners, has a 9-hour time limit and is a UTMB World Series index race. Entry is £75 (£73 for UKA affiliated runners); the first 20 entries have a reduced price. Minimum age is 20 and dogs are not permitted. The event is held under TRA permit No. 7746 and UKA rules.

Course, aid stations and navigation

The route passes Berkhamsted Common, National Trust Ashridge Estate and follows The Ridgeway National Trail to Aldbury (CP1), then another 13 km on The Ridgeway to Wendover (CP2) before returning via the Chiltern Way and woodland single-track to finish back in Berkhamsted. Navigation is fully marked with orange arrows and ribbons; marshals will staff road crossings and key points. Runners must carry a digital GPX of the route and printed maps are available at registration.

There is a water-only point at 11.9 km and three full checkpoints (Aldbury Sports Ground 17.7 km; Runaway HQ, Wendover 30.8 km; Wigginton Village Hall 41.4 km). Aid stations provide water, coke, Precision Fuel & Hydration drinks, gels and chews, snacks and fresh fruit. Toilets are at the event base and at the first two checkpoints; showers and changing rooms are available at the finish.

Practical information and required gear

There is no on-site parking; nearby public car parks are Berkhamsted Station (£7, 500 m walk), Lower Kings Road (£4, 850 m walk) and St John Wells Lane (£4, 1 km walk). Berkhamsted train station is about a 5-minute walk from the start/finish. Required kit to carry for the whole run includes a mobile phone with an emergency number saved, GPX route plus paper map, waterproof jacket, warm hat and gloves, an extra long-sleeve layer, head torch, a refillable hydration system (0.5 L min, 1 L recommended) and cash or card.
