Chiltern Ridge Winter 50K
The Chiltern Ridge Winter 50K is a single loop trail race starting and finishing at Berkhamsted Cricket Club. The course covers 50K with approximately 800 m of ascent and uses a set of trails through the Chilterns, including sections of The Ridgeway and the Ashridge Estate. The route passes through Aldbury and Wendover before returning to Ashridge and finishing in Berkhamsted.
The event is limited to 350 runners and carries a nine hour overall time limit. Navigation is fully marked with orange arrow markers and ribbons, and marshals are present at road crossings and busier sections. All runners must carry a digital GPX of the route on a watch or phone and a paper map is available at registration.
There are three full aid stations and a water-only point at 11.9 km. Full stations provide water, coke, Precision Fuel & Hydration products including electrolyte drink, gels and chews, snacks such as crisps and flapjacks, and fresh fruit. The route is licensed by the Trail Running Association and serves as a UTMB World Series index race. Minimum age for entry is 20 and no qualification is required.
Required equipment to be carried for the whole run includes a mobile phone, route GPX and paper map, waterproof jacket, warm hat and gloves, an extra long sleeve layer, head torch, a refillable hydration system (0.5 L minimum, 1 L recommended), and payment method for purchases.
