Chiltern Ridge Winter 50K
The Chiltern Ridge Winter 50K is a single-loop trail race held on 31 October 2026, starting and finishing at Berkhamsted Cricket Club. The event covers 50K with approximately 800 m of elevation and a 9-hour time limit, and is limited to 350 runners. It is licensed by the Trail Running Association (race #8215) and held under UKA rules. The race is an UTMB World Series Index Race.
The route passes through Berkhamsted Common and National Trust Ashridge Estate, follows The Ridgeway National Trail to Aldbury (checkpoint 1) and onward to Wendover (checkpoint 2), then returns via the Chiltern Way with more single-track and woodland sections before re-entering Ashridge and descending back into Berkhamsted. The course is fully marked with orange arrows and ribbons; marshals assist at road crossings and busy points. Runners must carry a digital GPX route and a paper map is provided at registration.
There are three full aid stations and one water-only point at 11.9 km. Aid station provisions include water, cola, pre-mixed Precision Fuel & Hydration PH 1000 electrolyte drink, PF 30 gels and chews, crisps, sweets, Chia Charge mini flapjacks and fresh fruit. Required kit includes a mobile phone with an emergency contact, waterproof jacket, warm hat and gloves, an extra long-sleeve layer, head torch, route GPX on device, and a refillable hydration system (minimum 0.5 L, 1 L recommended). Entry is open to runners aged 20 or older with no qualifying standard; entries include chip timing, a finishers medal, course medical support and on-route photos.
