Sun Mountain 50M 50K 25K : Winthrop, WA, May 1 and 2 2027
Rainshadow Running stages three trail races on the sunny eastern side of the North Cascades near Winthrop, Washington. Courses run on the edge of the Chelan Sawtooth Wilderness above the Methow and Twisp River valleys and pass meadows, old growth forest, ridgetops and Moccasin Lake Ranch. Routes are mostly gradual and runnable with some steep climbs and occasional technical sections. Weather is typically sunny and parts of the trails have little shade.
The races use point to point routes with a lakeside finish at Big Twin Lake Resort Campground. All participants are shuttled from Big Twin to the starts. Leashed dogs are not allowed on the race course but are permitted at the finish area.
These events take place on the ancestral lands of local Indigenous peoples including the Methow, Okanagan, Nlaka’pamux and members of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, as well as the Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla. Entry fees will be waived for members of those tribes.
Distances and basic course facts
- 50 Mile : about 8200 ft elevation gain and loss, 6 aid stations
- 50 Kilometer : about 5000 ft elevation gain and loss, 4 aid stations
- 25 Kilometer : about 2300 ft elevation gain and loss, 2 aid stations
The finish area includes a post race pizza party and campground amenities. Courses are well marked and aid stations offer water, electrolyte drink and a variety of food. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
