About the race
The Sun Mountain races are trail running events in Winthrop, Washington on May 1 and 2, 2027. The courses lie on the sunny eastern side of the North Cascades near the Chelan Sawtooth Wilderness above the Methow and Twisp river valleys. Runners pass through wildflower meadows, old-growth forest and ridgetops with views of snow-capped peaks. Trails are mostly gradual and runnable with some steep climbs and a mix of single track, wider ranch roads, low-traffic dirt and short paved sections.
Distances
- 50M - 8200 ft gain, 6 aid stations, 4.8 miles pavement
- 50K - 5000 ft gain, 4 aid stations, 4.8 miles pavement
- 25K - 2300 ft gain, 2 aid stations, 2 miles pavement
Routes will be point-to-point with a lakeside finish at Big Twin Lake Resort Campground and shuttle transport to the starts. Big Twin offers official race camping and onsite amenities; campsite reservations are available during registration. The finish area includes a post-race pizza party and lakeside facilities. Courses are marked with ribbons and arrow signs; runners are advised to carry a map or GPS backup. Dogs are not allowed on the race course; leashed dogs are permitted at the finish. Crew vehicle access to aid stations and the course is not allowed; crew may use the start/finish area. Entry fee waivers are offered for members of the Confederated Tribes named in event materials.
