Event overview

Summits of The North York Moors Ultra is a circular foot race scheduled for 4-5 July 2026, organised by SilverBackTrails and based at Goathland Village Hall, The Common, Goathland (YO22 5JS). The route is around 120 miles with approximately 16,000 ft of elevation and visits the 10 highest hills within the North York Moors National Park. The event has a maximum of 70 participants and a minimum age of 18. Entry opens 8 July 2025 and closes 27 June 2026. Entry fee shown is £110. Entries recorded so far: 5 participants.

Route, checkpoints and support

The route follows sections of established long-distance paths, including the Cleveland Way, Esk Valley Walk and Lyke Wake Walk, and passes archaeological features such as burial mounds, boundary stones, crosses and Bronze Age earthworks. There are indoor checkpoints at circa 40 and 80 miles with hot water, tea/coffee, cold drinks, various food options including vegan and gluten-free choices, and a place to rest. Drop bags (one medium per participant) will be taken to the indoor checkpoints. Each entrant will receive a tracker and a GPX file of the route.

Rules and mandatory kit

Time allowed for the event is 35 hours; participants must have left the final indoor checkpoint (circa 80 miles) within 22 hours. Support crews are limited to a maximum of three people and one vehicle and may only assist at designated checkpoints; outside assistance is not permitted except in emergency or DNF extraction. Pacers/support runners are not allowed. Prohibitions include sticks, headphones and pre-placed caching of equipment or food. Required kit includes hat and gloves, waterproof jacket and bottoms, spare thermal top, emergency bivvy, capacity to carry 2 litres of water, at least 250 g emergency food, head torch with spare batteries, charged mobile phone with power bank and OS Locate and What3Words installed, an appropriate map and a working compass.
