Nelson's Summit 50/50 - Salamanca, NY
Salt City Trail Racing presents the sixth annual Nelson's Summit 50/50 in the Red House area of Allegany State Park near Salamanca, NY. The event offers three distances: 50 miles, 50 km, and 25 km on a looped course made up of groomed trail, single track, and rolling hills.
The course uses an approximate 16-mile loop with about 2,250 feet of elevation change per loop, delivering total elevation figures listed per distance: the 25 km is about 16.1 miles with ~2,244 ft, the 50 km is about 32.2 miles with ~4,537 ft, and the 50 mile distance is about 50.2 miles with ~6,873 ft. Cutoffs are provided for each distance, including a 9-hour cutoff for the 50 km and a 14-hour overall cutoff for the 50 mile race; the 25 km has a 6-hour cutoff.
The race is USATF sanctioned and insured, is Trail Sisters approved, and is a UTMB Index event. Two staffed aid stations supply water, electrolyte drink, fruit, salty snacks, sandwiches, cookies, candy, and limited hot food for 50 mile runners after mile 34. All participants receive a pair of SCTR socks; prizes are awarded to top finishers by gender and distance.
