About the race
Nelson's Summit 50/50 is a trail running event held in the Red House area of Allegany State Park near Salamanca, NY. The organizer is Salt City Trail Racing. The event offers three distances on a looped course composed mainly of double track cross country ski trails and rolling hills.
The course uses a loop of about 16 miles with wayfinding flags and signs. Elevation accumulates across the distances, and the listed approximate totals are provided below. Cutoffs are set by elapsed time for each distance.
- 50 Miler about 50.2 miles, ~6,873 ft elevation change, 14 hour cutoff.
- 50 km about 32.2 miles, ~4,537 ft elevation change, 9 hour cutoff.
- 25 km about 16.1 miles, ~2,244 ft elevation change, 6 hour cutoff.
All runners receive a pair of SCTR socks. Prizes are awarded to top finishers in each gender division for each distance. Aid support includes three well stocked aid stations with water, electrolyte drink options, fruit, sandwiches, salty snacks, cookies, candy, and ice when appropriate. A limited selection of hot food is available for the 50 mile field after mile 34. The event is USATF sanctioned and insured, Trail Sisters approved, and listed as a UTMB Index race.
