Nelson's Summit 50/50 - Salamanca, NY
Salt City Trail Racing, in partnership with Allegany State Park, organizes the sixth annual Nelson's Summit 50/50 in the Red House area of Allegany State Park near Salamanca, NY. The event offers multiple trail distances and is sanctioned and insured by USATF, approved by Trail Sisters, and included on the UTMB Index.
Runners choose from the following distances:
- 25 km : about 16.1 miles, ~2,244 ft elevation, 6 hour cutoff
- 50 km : about 32.2 miles, ~4,537 ft elevation, 9 hour cutoff
- 50 mile : about 50.2 miles, ~6,873 ft elevation, overall 14 hour cutoff
The course is a looped route based on an approximately 16 mile loop with about 2,250 feet of elevation change. Surfaces include groomed trail, single track, and rolling hills. Course markings use flags and signs. The runnable nature of the terrain pairs with generous time limits and several intermediate cutoffs for the 50 mile distance.
Two well stocked aid stations support runners with items such as water, Skratch, ice when appropriate, fruit, pickles, sandwiches, chips, pretzels, cookies, and candy. A limited selection of hot foods is available for 50 mile runners after mile 34. All entrants receive SCTR socks and prizes are awarded to top finishers in each gender division and distance.
Refunds are not granted. Deferrals may be available for pregnancy, injury, or volunteering, and distance changes are permitted until online registration closes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
