Summer Meltdown Half Marathon - Austin
The Summer Meltdown Half Marathon takes place at Lake Pflugerville Park in Texas. This event is held during the summer months and utilizes the natural landscape of the park, featuring a course that includes lush trails, shaded sections, and views of local rivers. While the event begins in the early morning to utilize cooler temperatures, the course is designed to account for the Texas summer heat with aid stations providing water and support throughout the route.
Participants can choose from a variety of race distances:
- Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile chip-timed race.
- Quarter Marathon: A 6.55 mile chip-timed race.
- 5K Run: A 3.11 mile chip-timed race.
- 1 Mile Run: A distance for various experience levels, not chip-timed.
- Kids Dash: A 50m (approximately 20 yard) dash for participants aged 10 and under.
- Virtual Run: A 13.1 mile option for remote participation.
The course surfaces are primarily paved trails, though runners may encounter sections of crushed granite or dirt paths. The event features a race rally tent at the finish line where snacks and refreshments are provided. A DJ provides music and announcements at the finish area as runners complete their distances.
For the chip-timed events, including the 5K, Quarter Marathon, and Half Marathon, awards are presented to the first overall male and female finishers, as well as the top finishers in master’s and standard age group categories. All participants in the Kids Dash, 1 Mile, and timed races receive a finisher medal and a t-shirt, provided registration occurs before the shirt guarantee deadline.
