Summer Canal Canter
The event offers a flat Half Marathon and a 10k along the Grand Western Canal in Tiverton. Both routes follow the canal towpaths and return to the finish at the Canal Basin.
The Half Marathon starts at Tiverton Canal Basin and follows the canal paths for 6.6 miles to Sampford Peverell, where runners turn and return to Tiverton Canal Basin. The 10k goes to just past Tiverton Bridge car park and then returns; a marshal is positioned at that turnaround.
Course surfaces are hard packed gravel on canal paths. The Half Marathon includes approximately 90 feet of ascent; the 10k has slightly less ascent. Organizers provide a bespoke Summer Canal Canter medal for all finishers with a new design each year. Fifty percent of event profits are donated to The Friends of The Grand Western Canal.
Time limits are in place with a three hour cutoff for the Half Marathon and a two hour cutoff for the 10k. Entry categories and fees are listed for affiliated and unaffiliated runners:
