Trail Running in Roosevelt Forest
The Storybook Half Marathon takes place in Roosevelt Forest, located at 700 Peters Lane in Stratford, Connecticut. Participants navigate a 13.1 mile course through wooded terrain. The event is open to runners, joggers, ruckers, hikers, and walkers.
The race follows a specific course structure:
- 13.1 Miles: A 1.64-mile loop on marked singletrack and doubletrack trails, completed 8 times.
The route consists of natural surfaces including roots, rocks, and rolling hills. There is a 4-hour time limit to complete the full distance. Participants pass an aid station at the main pavilion during every loop, which provides hydration and ultra-style snacks. All finishers receive a commemorative medallion and non-alcoholic beer.
The event features a charitable component through a partnership with the nonprofit Books4Everyone. Attendees are encouraged to bring new or gently used children's books to the pavilion for donation to schools and community organizations. Prizes are awarded for the top three male and female finishers, as well as for the best costumes, as participants are invited to dress as storybook characters.
Parking is available on-site beginning at 7:00 AM, though space is limited and larger vehicles are directed to a side lot. Portable restrooms are located near the pavilion. Participants must be at least 18 years old or have a parental waiver. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
