About the race
The Stories Trail Runs is the 10th annual winter trail event held at the Limekiln Trailhead in Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Colorado Springs. The combined runner capacity is 225. The program includes timed ultra options and traditional distance races across multiple looped trails within the park.
Timed events challenge runners to cover as many miles as they wish within an allotted period. These timed formats use multiple distinct loops through the park rather than a single 1-2 mile circuit. The final hour of each timed race uses a short Gold loop that all participants and supporters may run together. Crews are not allowed, and pacers are permitted only for runners aged 60 years or older.
Race options:
- 6-Hour timed event running Red and Green loops
- 15-Hour timed event running a four-loop sequence
- 10k multi-loop course
- Half Marathon multi-loop course
- 20-Mile multi-loop course
Course specifics include loop distances and elevation gain. Example totals: the 10k is 6.83 miles with 1,013 feet of gain; the Half Marathon is 13.89 miles with 2,232 feet of gain; the 20-Mile and the full timed sequence measure about 19.46 miles with 3,090 feet of gain. The 6-Hour sequence repeated four times totals about 27.32 miles with 4,052 feet of gain.
Support is concentrated at a main aid station at the start/finish area; drop bags are allowed and accessible between loops. Weather can be variable with possible snow, mud, or cold, and organizers may alter or cancel the course; permits are provided by Cheyenne Mountain State Park and Colorado Parks & Wildlife.
