Event overview
The Stories Trail Runs take place February 21-22, 2026 at Cheyenne Mountain State Park in Colorado Springs, CO, with a combined runner capacity of 225. The weekend includes timed ultras and fixed-distance trail races: Stories 6-Hour, Stories 15-Hour, 10k, Half Marathon, and 20-Mile, plus two two-day pass options that pair a Saturday timed event with a Sunday distance race. The event is held under permits from Cheyenne Mountain State Park and Colorado Parks & Wildlife.
Course format and logistics
Timed events use a multi-loop format with a main staging area and aid station at the start/finish of each loop. Loop details:
- 10k: 6.64 miles, 883 ft gain
- Half Marathon: 13.01 miles, 1,901 ft gain
- 20-Mile: 20.4 miles, 2,770 ft gain
- 15-Hour sequence: Red 2.81 mi (354 ft), Green 3.72 mi (493 ft), Blue 5.68 mi (802 ft), Purple 7.38 mi (1,121 ft); full sequence 19.59 mi with 2,769 ft gain; Gold loop 0.81 mi (83 ft) used in final hour
- 6-Hour sequence: Red and Green loops alternating; one sequence 6.53 mi with 847 ft gain; four sequences equal 26.12 mi with 3,388 ft gain; Gold/Yellow loop used in final hour
Additional notes: every loop starts and finishes at the main aid station; drop bags are allowed at the start/finish area and vehicles may be parked nearby; crews are not permitted; pacers are allowed only for runners aged 60 or older. Bibs and shirts must be collected in person by the registered runner. Weather can include snow, mud, and variable temperatures; organizers may alter the course or cancel the event and no refunds are issued for cancellations or major edits. Awards include a finisher's award and DFL awards for last place in the 10k, Half Marathon, and 20-Mile. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
