Stone Mountain Massacre, Roaring Gap NC
Stone Mountain Massacre is a trail race weekend organized by Dirty Wolf Ultras in Roaring Gap, North Carolina. The event offers three distances and uses marked mountain trails around the Visitor Center and Stone Mountain Loop.
- 50K: Full course. Includes a Protection Stone and six Stone Tokens at aid stations.
- 25K: Partial mountain loop on marked trails.
- 8 Miler: Short loop on the same trail system.
The route follows the Bypass Trail into the Stone Mountain Loop, descends to Wolf Creek, and joins the Mountain-to-Sea Trail. The course includes a climb of 300 stairs and approximately 1,530 ft elevation gain per loop. Trails are marked with red ribbons and yellow arrows. Conditions may include ice, fog, and mud.
There are five aid stations, two manned and three unmanned; each holds a Stone Token. Aid station food items listed include pickles, bacon, candy, cereal, and fruit. Drinks include water, Tailwind, and soda. First aid is provided on course.
A time limit of 10 hours applies to finishers. Finishers receive a handcrafted pottery medal. For the 50K, a Blood Book relic is available for purchase to house the collected tokens and the finisher medal made by BlueGill Pottery. Event rules note no dogs, no strollers, trekking poles allowed, and no refunds for weather. Registration closes on Mon, Feb 1 at 11:59 PM ET.
