Stone Mountain Massacre - Roaring Gap, NC
Stone Mountain Massacre is a trail running event held near the Stone Mountain Visitor Center in Roaring Gap, North Carolina. The event offers multiple course options and a marked loop that uses local trails and the Mountain-to-Sea Trail.
Distances:
- 50K Full route with Six Stones quest.
- 25K The Blood Path.
- 8 Miler The First Test.
The 50K includes a special challenge called the Quest of the Six Stones. Participants carry a Protection Stone and must collect six stone tokens placed at aid stations to complete the Blood Book relic. An optional handcrafted Blood Book and a unique pottery finisher medal are available for those who complete the full quest.
The course description notes a loop that follows the Bypass Trail into the Stone Mountain Loop, descends to Wolf Creek, merges with the Mountain-to-Sea Trail, and includes an ascent of 300 stairs. Elevation gain is approximately 1,530 ft per loop. Trails are marked with red ribbons and yellow arrows. Conditions may include ice, fog, and mud.
There are five aid stations, two manned and three unmanned; each contains a stone token. Aid offerings include pickles, bacon, candy, cereal, fruit, water, Tailwind, and soda. First aid is provided and staff can be notified about dropped items. The event enforces a 10 hour time limit and event rules such as no dogs, no strollers, trekking poles allowed, bibs worn on the front, and no unregistered runners.
