Stone Mountain Massacre - Roaring Gap, North Carolina
Stone Mountain Massacre is a trail race held in Roaring Gap offering multiple distances. The course uses park trails including the Bypass Trail, the Stone Mountain Loop, Wolf Creek segments, and sections of the Mountain-to-Sea Trail. The route includes a climb of 300 stairs and repeated loops of rocky, root-filled trail. Elevation gain is about 1,530 ft per loop. Trail markings use red ribbons and yellow arrows. Conditions on course may include ice, fog, and mud.

The 50K includes a specific collection element: participants receive a Protection Stone to carry and can collect Six Sacred Stones during the course. A Blood Book is offered for purchase to hold collected stones and a finisher’s pottery medal made by BlueGill Pottery; each finisher also receives a one-of-a-kind pottery medal. One loop features several aid stations and support: five aid stations are indicated, with two manned and three unmanned. Aid station supplies listed include pickles, bacon, candy, cereal, fruit, water, Tailwind, and soda. Basic first aid is available.
Event rules note no dogs or strollers, no refunds for weather, walkers are allowed if they finish, trekking poles are permitted, bibs must be worn on the front, and unregistered runners are not allowed.
