Steps to Safety 5K Walk/Run : Domestic Violence Awareness
Steps to Safety is a 5K walk/run scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026 in Salem, OR at the Department of Public Safety Standards & Training. The event raises awareness about domestic and sexual violence and directs proceeds to the Center for Hope & Safety and the Marion County Domestic Violence Council.
The organizer, Center for Hope & Safety, provides services for victims and survivors including a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, community education, and outreach. Sponsors at presenting, silver, and bronze levels support the event and the agency's programs.
Individual participants must sign a waiver. Entry fees vary by age and registration period: early rates offer adult and youth entries that include socks, with free entry for children five and under; later registration increases the adult and youth fees and sock availability is limited. Sock sizes are guaranteed for registrations completed by September 1; after that date sizes are provided based on availability.
Pre-registered participants pick up race packets at the pre-registration booth on the morning of the event. Participants who register on race day receive their packet after registration. The event program includes in-person registration, opening remarks, the walk/run itself, and post-race activities. Donation and volunteer registration options are available to support survivor services and community outreach. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
