Course and location
The Step into Christmas event takes place on the beachfront promenade at Southbourne, to the east of Bournemouth. The route is flat and tarmacked, with views along the coast. It is an out-and-back course along the promenade, with each lap measuring 5.3 km or 3.28 miles. The route has no elevation gain or loss.
Distances
Participants can choose their own distance to run. Options range from 5K to ultra-marathon.
Format and timing
The event offers a flexible start window between 8:00 and 9:30. All runners must finish by 15:00, providing a maximum event duration of 7 hours. Race number collection is on the day at registration before starting.
Facilities and rules
An aid station with a selection of savoury and sweet food, plus drinks, is located at the start/finish of each lap. There is an area for runners to leave their own items. The event does not provide plastic cups, so runners must bring their own. Public toilets and showers are available along the promenade.
Every finisher who completes one lap or more receives a medal. According to UK Athletics rules, there are distance restrictions for participants aged 20 or under. The course is officially measured and certified by the Association of UK Course Measurers.
Logistics
Paid and on-street parking is available near the start/finish, with the nearest car park at Warren Edge, BH6 4BE. The nearest train stations are Christchurch or Pokesdown for Boscombe.
