Step into Christmas takes place on the beachfront promenade at Southbourne, located to the east of Bournemouth. The event follows an out and back route along the promenade, featuring a flat, tarmacked surface with views along the coast. The course has no elevation gain or loss, and it is officially measured and certified by the Association of UK Course Measurers, making it eligible for 100 marathon club purposes.
Participants can select their own distance by completing multiple laps of the 5.3 km (3.28 mile) course. Distances available include:

- 10 km
- Half Marathon
- Marathon
- Ultra-Marathon
The event features flexible logistics, with number pick-up available at the race registration on the day of the event. An aid and drinks table is located at the start and finish of each lap, providing a selection of savoury and sweet food items. Runners are required to bring their own cups as the event does not provide plastic cups. Public toilets and showers are accessible along the promenade, and an area is provided for participants to leave their personal items.
The venue is accessible via public transport, with the nearest train stations at Christchurch or Pokesdown. Paid and on-street parking is available nearby, including the Warren Edge car park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
