STEM 5K at Biddeford Middle School
The event is an annual spooky 5K led by Biddeford Middle School STEM students and held at Biddeford Middle School, 25 Tiger Way, Biddeford, ME 04005. The race was developed as a student-led project with teachers supporting planning and hosting.
The event aims to promote positive community and to raise funds for special STEM learning activities at the school. Funds are used for field trips, maintaining STEM equipment, and other endeavors that enrich students' experiences. Participating students gain experience in fundraising, marketing and design, course planning, and race officiating.
The course is decorated with a Halloween theme and costumes are encouraged because the event takes place near Halloween. An additional event, the Candy K, runs during the 5K and is geared toward children 10 and younger. The Candy K includes age appropriate games and a 1 kilometer fun run during which participants collect candy while moving through a decorated course.
