Steel City Human vs Horse
This event pairs a trail running race and an equestrian endurance ride that start together on the same course to compare human and horse performance. Distances offered for both runners and riders include:
- 10k fun run with no podium prizes
- Half Marathon
- 50k
- 50 miles
The course is mixed terrain with single track, gravel road, and grassy meadow. All participants must attend a pre-race safety meeting to review trail etiquette. The equestrian competition is sanctioned by the American Endurance Ride Conference.
Camping is available for horses and people. A veterinary check in will be available Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, with timing to be announced. Entry requires submission of a current Coggins test. Riders not already AERC members who enter the 50k or 50 miles must pay a one day AERC membership fee; no membership is required for the Intro ride or Half Marathon.
Time limits and cutoffs are applied. Runner cutoffs are 14 hours for 50 miles, 13 hours for 50k, and 8 hours for the Half Marathon. Rider cutoffs follow AERC rules including 12 hours for 50 miles and 7 hours 15 minutes for 50k.
The event is rain or shine; organizers may reroute to gravel roads if trail conditions are dangerous.
