Event Overview

The Steel City Human vs Horse is a simultaneous trail running and horseback endurance race. It is modeled after similar events in the UK and Arizona. The central premise is to see whether a human runner or a rider on horseback can complete the course faster.

Distances

The event offers three distances for both runners and riders:

  • Half Marathon
  • 50k
  • 50 miles

Course and Format

The race takes place on trails featuring a mix of single track, gravel roads, and grassy meadows. All participants, both runners and riders, are required to attend a pre-race safety meeting to discuss trail etiquette. The equestrian portion of the event is sanctioned by the American Endurance Ride Conference (AERC).

Logistics

Camping is available for both horses and humans. The event has a time limit, with all participants required to be off the course by sunset (8:30 PM). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
