Event overview

Steaming to the Coast is a trail running event organised by Channel Events on 11 April 2026 at West Somerset Railway – Minehead Station, Minehead, Somerset (TA24 5BG). The event uses the longest standard gauge steam railway line in the UK. A second train will operate in 2026. Entry prices range from £35 to £60. The event is open to entrants aged 8 and over on 11/04/2026.

Race format and course

Entrants board a steam train from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard. There are three distances:

11 km (Washford start)
11 miles (Williton start)
Marathon (26.2 miles)

Marathon runners disembark at Bishops Lydeard to run back to Minehead. The 11 mile and 11 km runners travel by train to their respective start locations and then run back to Minehead, finishing outside Minehead Station. The full marathon route includes the main ridgeline of the Quantock Hills, then drops to Williton and follows sections of the Steam Coast Trail and the England Coast Path.
