About the race
Channel Events stages a trail running event on 17 April 2027 that uses the West Somerset Railway steam service between Minehead and Bishops Lydeard. Entrants register at Minehead and travel by steam train along the heritage line to their advertised start points in West Somerset.
There are three distance options:
- 11 km
- 11 miles
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
Marathon runners disembark at Bishops Lydeard to run back to Minehead along trail paths, while the 11 mile and 11 km fields ride the train to their respective start points at Williton or Washford before returning on foot to finish outside Minehead Station. The full marathon follows the main ridgeline of the Quantock Hills and then drops to Williton, where the route picks up sections of the Steam Coast Trail and the England Coast Path as it approaches the coast.
The event takes place at West Somerset Railway – Minehead Station, Minehead, Somerset, TA24 5BG. Organiser information indicates there will be one train in operation for the event and that previous editions sold out in earlier years.
