The Steamboat Classic
The Steamboat Classic is an annual running event in Peoria, Illinois, established in 1974 and held for more than 50 years. The event offers two main courses: a smooth, flat 4 Mile on a city course and a 15K that covers hilly loops through Glen Oak Park. It includes multiple competitive and citizen divisions, with USATF championship categories, wheelchair racing, and open citizen fields.
The event is presented by PNC and supported by local and regional partners. Organizers run a year-round program called SC415 that links the 4 Mile and 15K distances with community training and health activities. Race week features typical pre-race and race-day services such as packet pickup and post-race activities.
The Steamboat Classic describes itself as a long-running community tradition that attracts participants from the region and beyond. The course descriptions note a flat profile for the 4 Mile and a hilly profile for the 15K, which are observable features for runners and wheelers considering each distance.
