Starburster
The Starburster event takes place in Hurn Forest, utilizing an out-and-back route that follows the main forest trails. The course consists of a 2.5 mile out-and-back loop. Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- 5 miles: Comprising one full lap (minimum age 16).
- 10 miles: Comprising two full laps (minimum age 17).
The race begins at the Hospital Services Cricket Club in St Leonards, Ringwood. As the run is held during sunset and twilight hours, head or chest torches are mandatory for all participants. The terrain consists of well-maintained hardstanding tracks, meaning trail shoes are recommended but not required. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association (TRA) and conducted under UK Athletics (UKA) rules.
Facilities at the Hospital Services Cricket Club include toilets and a designated area for bag storage. An aid station at the start and finish provides a selection of sweet and savoury items. This is a cup-less event, and runners must provide their own containers for drinks. Registration and number pick-up take place on-site prior to the start.
To support local environment conservation, 20% of entry fees are donated to Forestry England for forest and trail maintenance. Parking near the start area is limited, though a public car park is located 0.4 miles away on Boundary Lane. Public transport options include a bus stop at St. Leonard's Hospital and railway stations in Bournemouth or Branksome. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
