Starburster (5 or 10 miles)
Starburster is a twilight trail event in Hurn Forest that starts and finishes at Hospital Services Cricket Club. The route follows the main forest trail as an out and back course and is run on hardstanding, well maintained tracks.
Because the event takes place at twilight, head or chest torches are essential and additional lights are encouraged. Trail shoes are recommended but not required.
Laps are 2.5 miles each. Distances offered:
- 5 miles - one 2.5 mile lap
- 10 miles - two 2.5 mile laps
There is an aid and drinks station at the start and finish offering a selection of savoury and sweet items. Organisers do not provide plastic cups. Toilets are available inside the cricket club, which also provides space for bag storage. Numbers are collected at race registration before the start and final instructions are sent by email.
Minimum age is 16 years for the 5 mile event and 17 years for the 10 mile event. Twenty percent of entry fees are donated to Forestry England to support forest and trail maintenance. The event is licensed by the TRA and will be run under UKA rules. Parking near the start is limited; a public car park is available on Boundary Lane about 0.4 miles away. Morebus serves the area and the nearest train stations are Bournemouth and Branksome, each about 8.1 miles from the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
