Stanza Stones Summer Edition
The Stanza Stones Summer Edition is a 50-mile ultra-marathon on a linear route from Marsden to Ilkley in the South Pennines. The course has over 6,800 feet of ascent and visits all six Stanza Stones, which are poems about water carved into rocks by stone artist Pip Hall. The route also passes through the village of Haworth.
The event is connected to the Ilkley Literature Festival and the poems were commissioned from poet Simon Armitage. The course covers high moorland and valleys, following parts of the Pennine Way and passing Stoodley Pike and Ilkley Moor.
Registration is available on Friday evening at the finish location, Ben Rhydding Primary School in Ilkley. On Saturday morning, registration and the start are at Marsden Cricket Club. An optional coach transfer from Ilkley to Marsden is available on Saturday morning. Free camping is offered at the school on Friday and Saturday nights.
There are three indoor checkpoints with food, located in Mytholmroyd, Haworth, and Bingley. The finish is at Ben Rhydding Primary School. A finishers memento, an optional finishers T-shirt, and a finishers meal are provided. Changing rooms are available at the end. The minimum age for participants is 20 years.
