Stanza Stones Summer Edition

The Stanza Stones Summer Edition is a linear long-distance event covering a 50 mile route through West Yorkshire. The course begins in Marsden and concludes in Ilkley, featuring over 6600 ft of total ascent. Participants have a 24-hour time limit to complete the journey.

The route is defined by the six Stanza Stones, which are stones inscribed with poems by Simon Armitage. Each poem is connected to the theme of water and its influence on the moors, with individual stones named Snow, Rain, Mist, Dew, Puddle, and Beck. As runners progress between these landmarks, they cross the moorlands of the South Pennines and pass through the historical village of Haworth. The final section of the course requires a climb over Ilkley Moor.

The event includes several organized features for participants:

  • 50 miles: A linear route from Marsden Cricket Club to Ilkley.
  • Live tracking provided by Open Tracking for all participants.
  • Three indoor checkpoints along the course offering food and drink.
  • A finishers meal provided at the end of the event.
  • Changing rooms available at the finish location in Ilkley.

Registration can be completed either at Ben Rhydding Junior School in Ilkley on Friday evening or at Marsden Cricket Club on Saturday morning. An optional coach service is available for transport from Ilkley to the start in Marsden on the morning of the event for an additional fee. This event has a minimum age requirement of 20 years.
