Event overview

The Stanhope Trail Races take place on 11 April 2026 in Stanhope, County Durham. The event offers two main distances:

  • 10k
  • Half Marathon

All races start and finish at Stanhope Showground, Unthank Park (DL13 2PQ). Entry is open to participants aged 16 or older. The routes pass through parts of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and include moorland, dales, rivers, woods and waterfalls.

Course, kit and services

Routes begin with fields below Ashes Quarry, include a climb up East Lane, open moorland sections and the climb to Collier Law. The 10k route descends the Stanhope fell race line and passes single-track woodland and a waterfall. The half marathon continues to Parkhead Station café, passes the old winding station at Bolt’s Law, crosses more moorland and then rejoins the 10k route.

Terrain includes hard packed gravel shooting tracks, sheep trods and muddy woodland trails; trail shoes are recommended. Mandatory kit for all events includes a foil blanket and a mobile phone. Half marathon runners must also carry extra warm layers, a waterproof jacket, an emergency snack, hat and gloves. The event is fully waymarked and marshalled, with feed stations, medical cover, hot food at the finish and a memento for finishers. The organiser provides event parking at the showground (weather permitting). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
