Event overview
The Stanhope Trail Races take place on 11 April 2026 at Stanhope Showground, Unthank Park, Stanhope, County Durham DL13 2PQ. The event is organised by Greener Miles Running and uses routes within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and UNESCO Global Geopark.
Distances
- 10k (7 miles, 1,200 ft)
- Half marathon (14.6 miles, 1,887 ft)
Course, kit and logistics
Both races start and finish in Stanhope. Runners are walked from the showground to a nearby playing field before the route leaves town, crosses fields below Ashes Quarry, climbs East Lane and reaches open moorland and Collier Law. The 10k route then descends the Stanhope fell race line, follows single-track woodland paths past a waterfall and returns to Stanhope. The half marathon continues to Parkhead Station café, passes the old winding station at Bolt's Law, crosses open moors and later rejoins the lower part of the fell route.
Mandatory kit for all entrants includes a foil blanket and a mobile phone. The half marathon requires an additional warm base layer, waterproof jacket, emergency snack, hat and gloves. Terrain includes hard packed gravel shooting tracks, sheep trods and muddy woodland trails; trail shoes are recommended.
The event provides feed stations (water, sweets and fruit), waymarking, marshals, medical cover, hot food and drinks at the finish, an event mug and a packet of wildflower seeds. Event parking is at the showground with extra parking in Stanhope town centre if needed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
