Stanhope Trail Races
Stanhope Trail Races are trail running events based at Stanhope Showground in County Durham that use routes across the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and UNESCO Global Geopark. Races start and finish at the show ground, with a short walk between registration and the start area. Event parking is available at the show ground with additional parking in Stanhope town centre if required.
Available race distances include:
- 10k (approx 7 miles, 1200 ft ascent)
- Half marathon (approx 14.6 miles, 1887 ft ascent)
The event sets an age limit of 16 or older. The organiser requires appropriate clothing for the conditions and specifies mandatory kit; recommended items include full body cover, hat and gloves, waterproof jacket and trousers, emergency blanket or survival bag, and food and water. Course support includes feed stations around 4.5 miles and 9 miles, fully waymarked and marshalled routes, medical cover, and post race food and snacks at the show ground. All finishers receive a bespoke memento. Prizes are awarded to first through third senior male and female and to winners in veteran age categories from V40 upward.
Entries open on 9 January 2026 and close on 8 April 2026. The event describes measures to reduce single use plastics, collects pre loved running kit for upcycling, and encourages car sharing to lower environmental impact. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
