Stairway 5k by Ode to Laz
This event comprises two separate 5k runs held inside Holly Recreation Area at 5000 McGinnis Road, Holly, Michigan. Participants park, register, and start from the Overlook Picnic Shelter area inside the park. A daily park pass or a recreation passport is required for park entry and is not included with race entry.

The Stairway to Heaven 5k follows the Wilderness Trail as a rolling out-and-back course and finishes with a loop that goes down and then up the Stairway to Heaven. The Stairway to Hell 5k repeats the same stairway loop multiple times, with the organizer noting a total ascent of about 1100 feet over the course and approximately 12 repetitions of the stair section. A course map is provided for the Stairway to Heaven route; a separate map is not provided for the repeated loop format.
Both races are part of a weekend festival called Ode to Laz and take place on hiking and recreation trails at Holly Recreation Area. Entry fee for each race is $34.99. Registration opens July 25, 2026 and closes May 12, 2027. Entering both races provides a $10 discount on one race and includes one set of event swag. The weekend also includes family friendly activities such as kayaking, fishing, camping, and beach activities at Lake Heron. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
