St. Matthews Independence Day 5k Run/Walk 2026
The St. Matthews Independence Day 5k Run/Walk is an annual event held in Louisville, Kentucky. Taking place on July 4, this timed race follows a course through St. Matthews neighborhoods that has remained unchanged since the 1970s. The event is hosted at St. Matthews Baptist Church and is open to both runners and walkers.
Participants can choose from the following registration options:
- 5k Run/Walk: A standard chip-timed race on a closed course through local neighborhoods.
- Virtual 5k: An option to complete the distance independently and upload results by July 6.
Registration is limited to the first 700 participants. The event includes the River City Races Run the 502 series, where completing six specific races earns a series finisher medal. On-site amenities for participants include parking, a goodie bag, and free race photography. Following the race, there are food options, vendor booths, awards ceremonies, and door prize drawings.
Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in various categories, including overall, Master, Grandmaster, and multiple age groups ranging from 9 and under to 80 and over. A Team Challenge is also available for groups of three to five members. Proceeds from the event support the St. Matthews Baptist Church Love 40207 campaign and St. Matthews Area Ministries.
