Event Overview
The St. Marks Duathlon is a multisport event held in St. Marks, Florida. There are three different event entries: a standard individual race, a two or three-person relay, and a "Fat Tire" division for bikes with certain tire specifications.
Race Distances and Format
The race format is a run-bike-run sequence:
- A 5 km (3.1 mile) run
- A 20 km (12.4 mile) bike ride
- A final 2.5 km (1.6 mile) run
The bike course is open to regular traffic, and participants must adhere to all traffic laws. Law enforcement and volunteers will be present at major intersections. One water station is available on the run course, but not on the bike course; athletes are responsible for their own nutrition and hydration during the race.
Course Details and Timing
The courses are marked with colored spray chalk arrows: red for the first run, yellow for the bike segment, and white for the final run. The event has a 2-hour cutoff time to receive an official finish. Participants must wear a bib number visibly on their front for timing. It is a USA Triathlon sanctioned race, requiring all participants to have a USAT membership or purchase a one-day license.
Event Day Logistics
Packet pickup is available on the Saturday before the event at a location in Tallahassee, or on race morning starting at 7:00 AM at the venue. Parking is along the transition area, with volunteers directing traffic from 6:45 AM. Transition racks are first-come, first-served, and bikes must be racked by the saddle. The transition area closes at 7:45 AM for a single wave start. Four portable restrooms are located near the transition and parking area. Post-race food and beverages are provided, and an awards ceremony is scheduled.
Special Divisions
The Fat Tire division is for bikes with knobby or heavily grooved tires at least 1.5 inches wide. Gravel bikes are acceptable if they meet the tire criteria. The Relay division is for teams of two or three people, with categories for male-only, female-only, and mixed-gender teams. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
