Squatchapple - South Mountain Reservation, West Orange NJ (March 6, 2027)
Squatchapple is a trail-running event held at the Tulip Springs / Boy Scout area of South Mountain Reservation in West Orange, NJ. The event offers multiple distances for runners and hikers:

The course uses three loops that all start and finish at Tulip Springs: a 4 mile Pink Loop, a 5.5 mile Checkered Loop, and a 7 mile Blue Loop. Loops must be completed in a prescribed order to reach each race distance. The terrain is a mix of hard packed carriage roads and technical singletrack with rocks and roots. The event lists elevation gains by distance: 11 miles 1,185 ft, 20 miles 2,155 ft, 50K 3,860 ft, and 50 miles 5,790 ft. Marking uses colored ribbons aligned to each loop.
The aid station is located at the start/finish and supplies water, Skratch hydration, snacks, and a range of gluten free and vegan options; it is the only on-course aid point. The event is cupless and participants are expected to provide their own cup or bottle. There is an on-site first aid kit and AED, private changing tents, and a quiet Jackalope Tent for sensory support. Pacers and crew are allowed under published rules and pre registration requirements. Refunds are not offered; deferral options and policies are provided for specific circumstances. The event typically caps entries at 400 participants and has sold out in recent years.
