The Chatham Turkey Trot
The Chatham Turkey Trot is an annual Thanksgiving Day running event in the Highlands neighborhood of Chatham Township, New Jersey. The event offers two distances:
- 1 Mile Family Fun Run
- 5K USATF certified race
The event attracts more than 1,300 participants each year and has raised more than $335,000 since its inception in 2009 to benefit first responders, veterans, and diabetes research and education. Named beneficiaries include local emergency services and several nonprofit organizations.
Registration details are published in advance. Pre-registration fees are listed as $20 for the 1 Mile and $25 for the 5K, with race day registration available for $30 for all races. Participants must register before November 1 to receive an event T-shirt. A signed waiver is required for all participants. Payments may be made via Venmo or by check payable to The Chatham Turkey Trot.
The race course travels through neighborhood streets near 110 Van Houton Avenue. Organizers request that vehicles park only on specified side streets and that participants avoid parking along the course on Van Houton Avenue and Huron Drive. Alternative walking routes from nearby streets are noted. There are no public restrooms on course and dogs are asked to remain at home for safety. Runners are not officially timed, though two race clocks are placed along the route.
Awards are given to all 1 Mile participants with ribbons and to top finishers in age and overall categories for the 5K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
