Event overview

The Spring Cleaning race weekend in Georgetown features three distances:

  • 5k
  • 10k
  • Half marathon

All courses run along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal path. The half marathon begins and ends in Georgetown near the Potomac Boat Club, while the 5k and 10k start and finish at Fletcher’s Boathouse. Walkers are welcome. A virtual race option is offered.

Courses and on-course services

The half course is an out-and-back on the C&O Canal, described as a light gravel dirt road with minimal elevation change. The 5k is an out-and-back on a light gravel flat trail with no major elevation gains. The 10k is an out-and-back once. Water stations and Gatorade are provided as follows: seven stations on the half, three on the 10k, and one on the 5k, at approximate mile markers. Port-a-johns will be available near the Georgetown check-in area; restrooms will be available near Fletcher’s.

Entries, timing and logistics

The event is chip timed. Runners receive a finisher’s medal and a technical (drifit) event shirt; shirts are guaranteed for registrations before April 8. There is no on-site race registration. Packet pickup is available at the event and participants are recommended to arrive 90 minutes before their event start time. There is no official bag check; items may be left at the timing tent but organizers are not responsible.

Results, awards and charity

Live results will be posted on Athlinks and final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to first and second in multiple age groups; overall top-three finishers are not eligible for age-group awards. The event donates one old race medal per finisher to the nonprofit We Finish Together. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
