Overview

The Spire Ultra is a 33-mile trail race held on 9 May 2026. The 2026 event is the 10th edition and has a minimum age of 18. Race headquarters are at North Wingfield Community Resource Centre, with free car parking available at the centre and on adjoining estate roads. The event is run under permit from the Association of Running Clubs. Entry fees listed for 2026 are £38 for UKA members and £40 for non-members. Finishers receive a special 10 year anniversary memento and light refreshments at the community resource centre.

Course and logistics

The route largely follows the Chesterfield Round Walk and covers a variety of terrain, including high moorland, ancient woodland, reservoirs, rolling farmland and restored former mining areas. There are six checkpoints on the course: four offer drinks only and two provide food and drink, including both sweet and savoury items. Medic cover is provided on the course and at race headquarters. The race has a nine hour time limit; to meet this, participants must pass Checkpoint 4 within five hours. The route is signed on trickier sections but most of the course relies on map, GPS, route notes and waymarks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
