Spearfish Canyon Half Marathon & 5K : July 11, 2026
The event on July 11, 2026 is the 40th anniversary of the Spearfish Canyon Half Marathon and 5K. It is a fundraising event that benefits abused and neglected children through the Northern Hills Area CASA Program, serving eight counties of western South Dakota. As a fundraiser, no refunds will be issued.
Distances
- Half Marathon (certified course USATF SD16003BK) following Highway 14A to Spearfish City Park.
- 5K starting and ending in Spearfish City Park, using campground roads and the bike path.
The half marathon course runs down the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway alongside limestone canyon walls and Spearfish Creek. All half marathon participants receive a participation medal. The half marathon has a time limit of 3 hours, 20 minutes and requires runners to keep to the left side of the road or face disqualification.
Awards are given to the overall top three male and female finishers in each race. Age group awards are noted for both events with specified age categories. Team entries are not available for the 5K; it is open to individual entries.
A complimentary memorabilia race shirt is provided for paid registrations received by June 23; limited shirts will be available for purchase at packet pick-up on July 10. Buses are provided to transport half marathon runners from Spearfish City Park to the starting area. Official race timing is provided by Mangled Momentum.
