Run for Their Lives!
Run for Their Lives! is a community running and walking event held in Spearfish, South Dakota. The event focuses on remembering children who have passed away and celebrating motherhood in all its forms. Proceeds from the race support Lach-s Legacy, a non-profit organization dedicated to SIDS awareness, safe-sleep education, and supporting bereaved families in South Dakota.
Participants can choose from the following event options:
- In-Person 5K Run/Walk: A 3.1 mile course starting at St. Joseph-s Catholic Church and looping through the City Campground and local parks.
- Virtual Run/Walk: A remote 5K option for those who wish to participate from any location.
The in-person race utilizes chip-timing for participants who want an official time. Organizers award prizes to overall winners and provide medals for winners in specific age groups. Participants can form teams for either the in-person or virtual format, and the team with the largest number of members receives a digital certificate of acknowledgement.
Registration for the in-person event include a race t-shirt, a commemorative bib number, and refreshments. To ensure t-shirt availability, registration must be completed by late April. Virtual participants receive a t-shirt, bib, and a custom race medal mailed to them prior to the event. An on-site silent auction is also held during the event at the church location.
