XTERRA Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon
XTERRA Deadwood Mickelson is a trail running event in Deadwood, South Dakota, held June 6-7, 2026. It is part of the XTERRA Trail Run World Series and uses the Deadwood Mickelson Trailhead and surrounding Black Hills terrain.
The course passes through an abandoned mining town, over railroad trestles, through a mountain, past large rock formations, and alongside a creek before finishing in Deadwood, a designated historic town. The marathon course is USATF certified and serves as a Boston Qualifier. The event includes aid stations roughly every 2 miles offering water, Powerade, banana chunks, and pretzels, with some stations providing M and M's. Portable toilets are placed at set mile points on the marathon and half courses. A medical tent staffed by EMTs is located at the finish area.
Logistics note: there is no parking at the start lines; shuttle and trolley services connect hotels and parking areas to the start. Race packets and chips must be picked up at the expo; there is no race day packet pickup. The course is open for seven hours. Strollers and dogs are not permitted on the trail. Finish line amenities include awards, medals, massages, gear bags, food, and music.
