Sparta Jockey 502er
The Sparta Jockey 502er is an unsupported solo run across the state of North Carolina, starting in Sparta and finishing at Jockey's Ridge State Park in Nags Head. Racers cover the full route self supported and must rely on their own logistics and supplies. Entrants receive a custom finishers award and may purchase a finishers hoodie available only to those who complete the entire route.
Participants park in Waco at the race director's residence in a secured, monitored site and are transported by vans or buses to the race start at the Sparta post office. Racers are allotted 336 hours / 14 days to complete the course. The organizer enforces cutoffs every 37 miles; missing a single cutoff results in a warning and missing a second cutoff will result in removal for safety. The race team may disqualify entrants for littering, riding in a vehicle during the course, committing a crime, or other unsafe acts.
Weather in the mountains can become cold and hazardous; the race team will monitor conditions and provide warming vehicles or other safety measures when possible, though the event is presented as an individual challenge. The published route is available from the organizer and on MapMyRun. Refunds are not offered after registration; entries may be transferred between racers and deferrals are considered case by case.
