Sparta Jockey 502er
The Sparta Jockey 502er is an unsupported, solo long-distance race across the state of North Carolina that starts in Sparta, NC and finishes at Jockey's Ridge State Park in Nags Head, NC. The event is self-supported; racers are expected to manage their own logistics and supplies during the course.
Racers assemble in Waco, NC for pre-start parking in a secured, monitored site; the exact address is provided after registration. The official start location is the Sparta post office on May 10, 2027. The race must be completed within 336 hours (14 days), with a final finish deadline on May 24, 2027. Cutoffs occur every 37 miles beginning the day after the start; a first missed cutoff results in a warning, a second missed cutoff leads to removal from the race for safety.
Entry includes a custom finisher award for those who complete the entire route and an option to purchase a finisher hoodie reserved for full finishers. Racers who finish at Jockey's Ridge receive a hotel stay near Nags Head paid as part of the entry and access to shuttles back to vehicles on a regular schedule; cars are not available at the finish site. The entry fee listed is USD 538.13. No refunds are issued after registration; transfers and deferrals are handled under the event policies.
Race organizers may disqualify participants for littering, using a vehicle to advance on course, criminal acts, unsafe behavior, or other actions that endanger safety.
