Sparta Jockey 502er
The Sparta Jockey 502er is an unsupported solo running event across the state of North Carolina. The route starts in Sparta and finishes at Jockey's Ridge State Park in the Nags Head area. Racers must be self-reliant and manage their own logistics while following the published route.
Racers will park in Waco at a secured, monitored site. Participants are transported by vans or buses to the Sparta post office for the race start on May 10, 2027. Entrants have 336 hours, or 14 days, to complete the full distance. Cutoffs occur every 37 miles beginning the day after the start; a first missed cutoff triggers a warning and a second missed cutoff results in removal for safety.
Finishers receive a custom finisher award and may purchase a finishers hoodie available only to those who complete the entire route. Finishers will have a hotel stay near Nags Head included with entry and will be shuttled back to their vehicles every 24 to 36 hours, with additional shuttles possible for tight travel windows. Cars will not be at the finish.
This event is described as a graduate level journey run. No refunds are provided after registration; entries may be transferred and deferrals are considered on a case by case basis. The race team may disqualify participants for littering, riding in a vehicle, committing a crime, unsafe acts, or other dangers to the racer.
