Sparta Jockey 502er
Sparta Jockey 502er is an unsupported solo race that starts in Sparta, North Carolina, and finishes at Jockey's Ridge State Park in Nags Head. Racers traverse the state self-supported and must rely on their own navigation, planning and resupply.
Parking is provided in Waco at a secured, monitored site. Participants are transported by vans or buses to the start location. Entrants are given 336 hours/14 days to complete the full route. Finishers receive a custom finishers award and may purchase a finishers hoodie reserved for those who complete the entire distance.
The event applies intermediate cutoffs every 37 miles; a missed cutoff results in a warning and a second missed cutoff leads to removal for safety. The race team may disqualify participants for littering, riding in a car, committing a crime, unsafe acts or creating danger to themselves or others.
Weather in the North Carolina mountains can become cold and dangerous; the race team will monitor participants and may provide warming vehicles or other safety measures when needed. Entry includes hotel accommodation near Nags Head for those who finish, and shuttles return finishers to their vehicles on a periodic schedule. Registration closes on April 7, 2027.
