About the race
Stone Mountain Massacre is an off‑trail running event in Roaring Gap, North Carolina, organized by Dirty Wolf Ultras. The event offers multiple race options and a themed format that includes stone tokens and a purchasable Blood Book for the longest course.
Distances:
- 8 Miler
- 25K
- 50K
The 50K course is presented as a full-course route that begins near the Visitor Center and follows the Bypass Trail into the Stone Mountain Loop, descends to Wolf Creek, and joins the Mountain-to-Sea Trail. The route includes a notable climb described as the 300 Stairs of Judgment and reports an elevation gain of about 1,530 ft per loop. Trail markings are provided with red ribbons and yellow arrows. Conditions may include ice, fog, and mud.
Aid and race support include five aid stations with a mix of manned and unmanned stations. Supplies listed at aid stations include pickles, bacon, candy, cereal, fruit, water, Tailwind, and soda. First aid is provided at the event and staff should be notified if a runner withdraws.
The 50K course incorporates a themed element: participants receive a Protection Stone to carry and collect stone tokens at aid stations; a Blood Book is available to house collected stones and the finisher pottery medal made by BlueGill Pottery. Event rules note no dogs, no strollers, no refunds for weather, walkers are permitted if they finish, trekking poles are allowed, bibs must be worn on the front, and only registered runners may participate. Results and photos are posted after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
