Froggy Mountain Warrior 100
The Froggy Mountain Warrior 100 is a winter, fundraiser group run in Galax, Virginia, organized by Froggy Mountain Adventures to benefit the veterans organization 22toomany. The event is a self-supported, non-permitted group run covering 100 miles with an approximate total of 15,000 feet of elevation gain. Temperatures in February can be cold and snow, freezing rain, or ice are possible.
Course and logistics
The loop is a 10-mile circuit repeated 10 times. Each circuit includes a 7.2-mile out-and-back on a gravel road that contains a 3.1-mile climb and descent with a view at the top, plus a 1.35-mile out-and-back on a moderately technical trail, and a short road section near the finish. Some gravel-road sections can be slick with ice. The event will likely provide some aid, but participants should plan to be self-sufficient. There is a 40-hour soft cutoff; participants who exceed it may still receive a buckle.
Location and registration details: the run is based at SR612 Trailhead, Foothills Road, Galax, VA. Registration deadlines and buckle pickup conditions apply; registering before Feb 1 secures a buckle at the event, otherwise the buckle will be mailed. Lodging options include campsites and running spring water at Froggy Mountain Adventures, a 2-bedroom air B&B with rentable single rooms, and nearby hotels and short-term rentals.
