The course is USATF certified and follows waterfront sections on the east coast of Florida. The in-person event begins in Cocoa Village and finishes at Cocoa Riverfront Park, where family and friends can watch finishers. The race takes place in the vicinity of the Kennedy Space Center and the event theme is space related.
The organizer states a mission to run well organized road races, to highlight local space history, and to support the local community. The event is part of a New Frontiers Series; the 2026 mission focus is Juno, the Jupiter mission. According to the event information, Juno was launched from Cape Canaveral on August 5, 2011, operates in a highly elliptical polar orbit around Jupiter, and studies the planet’s atmosphere, magnetic field, gravity, and internal structure.
