Southern Oregon Young Marines Drug Demand Reduction 5K Dash
The Southern Oregon Young Marines present the Drug Demand Reduction 5K Walk/Run Dash on October 24, 2026, at Gary H. Wheeler Field #10, Lithia and Driveway Fields in Medford, Oregon. The event launches Red Ribbon Week and supports a fentanyl-free initiative through community education and outreach.
The Young Marines are partnering with Heroes In The Classroom to deliver prevention messaging across Jackson County and nearby Josephine County. Outreach efforts target students at many local high schools, including schools in Medford, Central Point, Ashland, Talent/Phoenix, Eagle Point, Rogue River, and several private and Josephine County high schools.
Event features combine a 5K walk/run with community education and family-oriented activities. Highlights include a chili cook-off with beef and vegetarian entries, interactive learning through Virtual Reality simulations and specialized impairment goggles, booths with local artisans and educational stations, and presentations by local dignitaries and families who have experience with recovery and prevention. The event presents multiple participation categories for the 5K and aims to bring together physical activity, education, and community engagement in support of reducing drug demand.
