Southern Oregon Young Marines Drug Demand Reduction 5K Dash
The Southern Oregon Young Marines are hosting the Drug Demand Reduction 5K Walk/Run Dash on October 24, 2026, at Lithia and Driveway Field #14, 300 Lowry Ln, Medford, OR. The event honors the legacy of a DEA agent who died in the fight against drug trafficking and supports a national effort to reduce fentanyl-related harm among youth.
The event combines a 5K Walk/Run with community education and outreach. The Young Marines are partnering with Heroes In The Classroom to deliver prevention messages across Jackson County, with outreach planned for multiple public and private high schools in Medford, Central Point, Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, Eagle Point, Rogue River, and other communities.
On-site activities described by the organizer include a chili cook-off with beef and vegetarian categories, interactive Virtual Reality impairment simulations and specialized goggles, DIY craft booths, educational stations, and family-oriented games. Local officials and families in recovery are listed among speakers expected to discuss community efforts to reduce substance harm and support sobriety.
Participation categories listed for the 5K include individual, para athlete, team, and team para athlete options. Registration and advance purchase of event T-shirts are noted as part of the event information. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
