Southern Oregon Young Marines Drug Demand Reduction 5K Dash
The Southern Oregon Young Marines are presenting a community event in Medford, Oregon on October 24, 2026, called the Drug Demand Reduction 5K Dash. The event is intended to support drug demand reduction efforts and to kick off Red Ribbon Week, observed October 23 to October 31. Participants register in advance and may select and purchase event T-shirts ahead of time.
The program includes a 5K walk/run with categories for individual entrants, para athletes, teams, and team para athletes. After the race, activities move to Bear Creek Park and include a chili cook off and BBQ contest with community voting, a DIY craft booth, an educational booth, raffle prizes, and a pie throwing contest. Interactive demonstrations are planned, such as virtual reality experiences illustrating the effects of drugs, mock sobriety tests using drunk goggles, and drug goggles simulating the effects of marijuana. A rock climbing wall and classic carnival games are also listed among family activities.
Organizers plan a community speaker session featuring the Mayor to discuss the importance of a drug free and alcohol free lifestyle and local collaboration with agencies on prevention and public safety. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
