Event overview
The Aberfan Memorial Run is organised by Phoenix Running South Wales and takes place in Aberfan, Merthyr Tydfil. The event commemorates the Aberfan disaster of 1966; the source notes 144 people died, including 116 children and 28 adults. A contribution from every race entry will be donated to the Aberfan Memorial Charity. Distance restrictions apply to participants aged 20 or under under UK Athletics rules.

The event is a timed, multi-lap format on a 5.3 km (3.28 mile) out-and-back lap along the Taff Trail. Participants may complete as many or as few laps as they wish, with a minimum distance of one lap (3.28 miles). There is a seven-hour overall time limit. The course is fully tarmac and has an overall elevation gain of 51 m.
Logistics
Free parking is available at Aberfan Community Centre. The nearest train station is Merthyr Vale, about 1 mile from the start. The organiser operates a flexible rock up and run start within a one-hour start window. Standard entries include a finishers medal; a lower-cost no-medal entry option at £20 is also offered. Entry fees listed are £33 for affiliated runners and £35 for unaffiliated runners. The event provides aid stations, same-day results, digital bibs, and digital finisher certificates.
