Event overview
The Celtic Trail Races take place on 13 December 2025 at Dare Valley Country Park, Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taff. The event offers three trail distances that run through Afan Forest, the Rhigos mountain range and sections of the Coed Morgannwg Way. Routes include climbs, long descents, river crossings and single-track sections on mostly forest trails. An interactive map and GPS file are available for download. A compulsory kit list must be carried by all competitors.
Race details and logistics
- Celtic Ultra - 34 miles, 5,194 ft ascent, circular from Dare Valley Park
- Celtic Trail Marathon - 26 miles, 3,050 ft ascent, circular from Dare Valley Park
- Celtic Trail Half Marathon - 13 miles, 2,200 ft ascent, linear from Resolven Rugby Club to Dare Valley Park
Checkpoints: 7 manned for the Ultra, 6 for the Marathon and 3 for the Half. Checkpoints provide water, fruit, sweets, biscuits and crisps. The half marathon is a linear route; coach transport is offered at additional cost and a 10 litre finish bag can be transported back to the finish. Car parking for ultra and marathon is at CF44 7RG; half marathon parking is at the rear entrance CF44 8UH. Time limits are set at 10 hours for the Ultra, 8 hours for the Marathon and 7 hours for the Half. Entry fees and included items are listed by the organiser; entry includes a race buff, finishers medal, car parking at Dare Valley Park, free race photographs, mince pies at the finish, first aid cover, electronic timing, and marked routes.
