South Shields Landmark Challenge
The event is a team running and navigation challenge in South Shields on 27 December 2026. It combines running, route choice and local landmarks, with the start and finish set at The Sanddancer Pub, South Shields, NE33 2LD. The remaining checkpoints are announced seven days before the event and can be visited in any order as teams decide their route.
Teams must include at least two runners; there is no maximum team size. The advertised distance is approximately 10 miles, but the actual distance depends on the route each team selects. All teams must take a team photo at each landmark and submit those photos as part of the challenge. There are prizes for the first all-male and first all-female teams, and everyone who enters in time can receive the South Shields Landmark Challenge medal.
The event is open to runners aged 17 or older. Entry fee is £13 per runner. To receive a medal on the day, entries must be submitted by Thursday 3 December 2026; later entries may still receive a medal by post for an additional charge or collect after the event.
December conditions can include roads, grass, trails and hills with the possibility of cold, wet and muddy weather. Participants are advised to bring a charged mobile phone, water, food, suitable winter clothing and warm dry clothes for afterwards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
