South Shields Landmark Challenge
The event takes place on 28 December 2025 in South Shields with start, finish and registration at The Sanddancer Pub (NE33 2LD). The entry fee is £12 per runner. Minimum age is 17 on the event date. Entries open 10 January 2025 and close 26 December 2025. At the time of listing there are 55 participants.
Format and practical information
Teams must have at least two runners and there is no upper limit on team size. All competitors must be entered as part of a team. Start and finish points are set, but the remaining checkpoints can be completed in any order. A list of landmarks and a map will be provided to entrants one week before the event. Teams navigate their own route, there is no official marked course, and teams must take a team photo at each landmark as proof of visit. Prizes are awarded to the first all-male and first all-female teams.
The distance depends on chosen route but is expected to be about 10 miles. Terrain includes roads, grass, trails and hills, and wintery conditions are expected in December. Recommended safety kit includes a fully charged mobile phone, water, food/snacks, emergency money and appropriate winter clothing. To receive a medal on the day entrants must have entered by 4 December; later entries may receive a medal by post or collection after the event.
