Event Overview
The South East Greenway 5K Stride is a 5 km race held on the South East Greenway near New Ross, County Wexford. It takes place annually on the first Friday in August.
Course Details
The course is a point-to-point route entirely on the scenic Greenway. It is known as a flat and smooth course with no car traffic or sharp corners. The route features a continuous, gentle descent from 40 meters to 7 meters in elevation. The start line is at the Glenmore end of the Greenway, approximately 6 km from the race headquarters, and finishes near Race HQ.
Participant Experience
The event uses chip timing. Participants are assigned to starting bays based on their estimated finish time to ensure a smooth start. A free shuttle bus operates from the Boat Club to the start area before the race. Post-race, finishers can enjoy refreshments such as tea, coffee, sandwiches, and cakes at the Boat Club. The Greenway remains open to the public during the event.
Awards and Recognition
All finishers receive a custom-made medal. Prizes are awarded for the top three male and female finishers, as well as for winners in various age categories. There are also cash prizes for the top three overall male and female finishers and for setting a new course record. A team trophy, the Seamus Burke Memorial Cup, is awarded to the fastest team of four from the same Athletics Ireland-affiliated club.
