South Downs 50k
The South Downs 50k is a point to point trail race of 50 km from University of Brighton, Falmer, to Helen Garden, Eastbourne. The route follows the South Downs Way through the South Downs National Park and finishes above the white cliffs of Beachy Head. The course includes a mix of grass trails, farm tracks and forest paths, with about 99% trail and 1% road. The route includes around 3,500 feet of ascent and descent and is described as runnable rather than technical.
The event provides four aid stations along the course, live GPS tracking and chip timing, event insurance, first aid and medical cover. It is a UTMB Index race and offers 2 ITRA points. Entries are offered on a first come first served basis with no waitlist; entries close one week before the race or when limits are reached. The published entry fee is £78 and this price includes a mandatory GPS tracker. Refund and deferral rules are published: a 50% refund is available until 2 March 2026, after which refunds are not given except for pregnancy when a full refund is available if requested before the race. Places may be deferred to the following year or transferred to another runner under the event’s conditions. A free shuttle bus runs from the finish to local hotels and Eastbourne train station.
