Solidarity Sidekick Down Route 66 – Stop 17 – Staunton 6.6K
The Solidarity Sidekick Stop 17 in Staunton is a community running event held on September 15, 2026. The event features a 6.6K Route 66 course that begins at Henry's Rabbit Ranch in Staunton, Illinois, a roadside attraction known for its vintage gas station façade, towering signpost, VW Rabbit displays, and live rabbits.
The series supports a runner covering the Illinois stretch of Route 66 to honor people living with ALS. At each stop participants take part in a shared "Sidekick" segment of 2.1 miles, a symbolic portion run alongside the lead runner. Participants receive a custom Stop 17 bib and a Staunton Route 66 charm to add to an official series medal; each completed stop adds a new charm.
Event shirts are optional and available during registration. The event includes a post-run gathering with the Spirits Run community and is described as community-driven, emphasising local history and Route 66 character. The course and event components are presented as open to a range of paces and focus on solidarity and ALS awareness. The meeting location is Henry's Rabbit Ranch, 1107 Historic Old Route 66, Staunton, IL 62088. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
