Overview
The Lake Lou Yaeger Triathlon is a multi-sport event held in Litchfield, Illinois, centered around Milnot Beach. Participants begin with a beach start in Lake Lou Yaeger, followed by a bike course on flat country roads. The run portion traverses the lake area and local campsites, providing views of the water and natural surroundings. This event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon (USAT) and marks the beginning of the triathlon season.
Race Options
Participants can choose from several distances and formats:
- Sprint Triathlon: 750 meter swim, 11.5 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run.
- Sprint Aquabike: 750 meter swim and 11.5 mile bike.
- High School Sprint: 750 meter swim, 11.5 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run.
- Olympic Triathlon: 1 mile swim, 24 mile bike, and 6.2 mile run.
- Olympic Aquabike: 1 mile swim and 24 mile bike.
- Relay Options: Available for both Sprint and Olympic triathlon distances for teams of 2 or 3.
Event Details
The swim portion utilizes a wave start system, with athletes entering the water four at a time every five seconds. Wetsuit use is determined by water temperature on race morning according to USAT rules. The bike course is supported by a mechanic in the transition area and a SAG vehicle on the route. For the run, water and electrolyte drinks are provided at aid stations.
Registration includes a race t-shirt, swim cap, finisher medal, and live results. A finish line festival features music, food, and drinks.
