Stop 18 is the final chapter of the Solidarity Sidekick Down Route 66 series, presented as a 6.6K run/walk at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, Illinois entrance in Granite City, located at 10950 Riverview Dr, Granite City, IL 62040. The event takes place on the historic bridge that spans the Mississippi River and connects Illinois and Missouri.
The bridge is described as a mile-long span with a mid-river bend, towering trusses, and panoramic river views. The program includes a pre-race community celebration at the Illinois bridge entrance, a sunset run across the bridge, and a shared 2.1 mile Sidekick segment that accompanies a solo Route 66 run for ALS awareness. The event also highlights the bridge as a historic Route 66 landmark and the conclusion of the Illinois series.
Every participant receives the official series medal and an Old Chain of Rocks Bridge Route 66 charm to add to the medal. Event shirts are optional and may be purchased during registration. The event features a post-run celebration with the Spirits Run community and is presented to raise awareness for ALS and to support the solo Route 66 mission.
