Solidarity Sidekick Down Route 66 - Stop 18
The Solidarity Sidekick Down Route 66 - Stop 18 takes place at the historic Old Chain of Rocks Bridge in Granite City. This event serves as the final segment of the Illinois portion of the series, marking the symbolic gateway between Illinois and Missouri. The location is known for its mid-river bend, towering trusses, and views of the Mississippi River. Due to construction on the Illinois side of the bridge, the route is designed to navigate around the Granite City area.
The distance for this event is:
- 6.6 km
The distance of 6.6 km is chosen to honor the history of the Mother Road and represent the journey of families affected by ALS. Participants can choose to run or walk the course. The event includes a shared 2.1-mile segment alongside a solo runner completing a cross-country journey to raise awareness for ALS.
Participants receive a custom bib and a specific Route 66 charm designed for the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge stop. This charm is intended to be added to the official series medal. Optional event shirts are available for purchase during the registration process. The gathering features a community atmosphere with music and photos near the bridge entrance, concluding with a sunset run to celebrate the completion of the Illinois series.
