Soldiers Freedom Outdoors 5K and 1 Mile Walk
The Soldiers Freedom Outdoors 5K and 1 Mile Walk returns for its fourth annual edition at Liberty Park in Downtown Inverness. This event is held in recognition of PTSD Awareness Month to support a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides eco-therapy and nature-based retreats to active-duty personnel and veterans. The gathering also serves as a remembrance for Gail DiMarco, a long-term board member of the organization.
The race utilizes a fully paved course located on the Withlacoochee Trail. This route is characterized as being flat and fast, offering a consistent surface for all participants. The event provides several distance and category options:
- 5K Run (3.1 miles)
- 5K Physically Challenged (3.1 miles)
- 1 Mile Walk
- 1 Mile Physically Challenged
All registered participants receive a selection of race items, including a custom finisher medal, an event shirt, and a commemorative bib. Following the conclusion of the activities on the trail, food and drinks are provided at the venue. An awards ceremony takes place at Liberty Park after the completion of the distances. Registration for the event includes several months of open enrollment leading up to the race date in October. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
