Solar Strides 5K
The Solar Strides 5K is a fundraising event organized to support SolarEquity, a student-run non-profit organization. The proceeds help fund solar energy installations for low-income communities across North Carolina to reduce energy costs and support a clean energy transition. This second edition of the race is held in partnership with the Environmental Affairs Department of the UNC-Chapel Hill Undergraduate Student Government, Campus Recreation, and Fleet Feet.
The event features a standardized distance for all participants:
- 3.1 Miles (5K)
The physical race takes place in Chapel Hill, with the start located at 230 E Cameron Ave. Participants can collect their bibs during the check-in process on the morning of the event. Sponsors provide food for runners following the completion of the race.
In addition to the in-person race, a virtual participation option is available. This allows individuals located outside of the Chapel Hill area to complete a 3.1 mile distance at their own chosen location. Specific registration tiers exist for students and general participants, with all registrations contributing to the organization's mission of equitable clean energy.
