About the race
Soil Mates Backyard Ultra is a Last One Standing format race held in Thomaston, GA. The main event uses a 4.167 mile loop called a Yard with about 350 feet of elevation gain through pastures and forest single track. Runners must complete each Yard within one hour and be inside the starting corral at the bell. If a runner is not in the corral when the next Yard begins, their race is over.
Course surface is roughly 60% pasture with a five foot path marked by guide ropes and arrows, and 40% single track forest trail with twists, turns, roots, and rocks. Once inside the starting pasture there is no pavement on course. The start and finish area is in a large open pasture with free parking, crew set up space, and nearby porta potties. Water refills will be available near the start area; participants must bring their own cup or bottle since this is a cupless race.
Two event options are offered:
- 4.167 mile Yard run each hour, 100 runner limit
- One Yard single lap sample, 50 runner limit
Free camping is allowed the night before in the starting pasture. Early bird $20 registration ends after the first 20 runners sign up for each race or at the end of September. Performances are eligible for affiliation points for national and world Backyard championships. Runners who complete 24 Yards or 100 miles receive a buckle by mail.
