About the race
The Smith Point Bridge 5K Run/Walk for Literacy is a community road event held on September 12, 2026 at Smith Point County Park in Shirley, NY. The course follows a coastal route that highlights the historic Smith Point Bridge and is sanctioned by USATF-LI. The official course begins in the park parking lot and finishes at the TWA Flight 800 Memorial. The event offers both in-person and virtual participation.
Virtual entrants may register for a window that runs from September 12 through September 20 and can upload finish times and photos during that period. Registration is non-refundable and options include in-person and virtual entries; some registration levels include a processing fee. On-site amenities listed for participants include an entry T-shirt guaranteed to the first 400 registrants, bagels and refreshments after the race, an awards ceremony, portable toilets in the parking lot, and parking subject to Suffolk County Park fees. Awards cover the top three male and female overall finishers and top three male and female in multiple age groups from youth through 80 and over. The event supports the Community Family Literacy Project, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that promotes family literacy in the area served by the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library.
