Smith Point Bridge 5K Run/Walk for Literacy
The Smith Point Bridge 5K is a community 5 kilometer run and walk held at Smith Point County Park in Shirley, NY. The course starts in the park parking lot and finishes at the TWA Flight 800 Memorial. The event is sanctioned by USATF LI.
The event is organized by the Community Family Literacy Project, Inc., a not for profit that supports family literacy programs in the area served by the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library.
Race amenities include an entry T-shirt guaranteed to the first 400 registrants, bagels and refreshments at the finish, an awards ceremony, portable toilets in the parking lot, and parking managed by Suffolk County Parks. Awards are given to the top three male and female overall finishers and to the top three male and female in multiple age groups, including 9 and under, 10–14, 15–19, and five year increments up to 80 and over.
Bibs may be picked up in person through event staff; registering at least three weeks in advance allows a personalized bib. Virtual bibs are mailed the Monday before the race with a typical delivery window of three to five days. Live online, email, and text results are provided, along with same day finish line photos and free video. Virtual participants may upload finish times and photos from race day through the following Sunday. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
